In her role as an engineering assistant with The Markosky Engineering Group, Eva Jeanne Markosky assisted department and division managers with financial functions and helped out in highway and bridge design projects. A passionate sports fan, Eva Jeanne Markosky counts the Pittsburgh Pirates as her favorite Major League Baseball (MLB) team.

The Pirates missed the playoffs in each of the past three seasons and, while the team posted a winning record (82-79) in 2018, its offense struggled as the team scored only 692 runs and registered a team on-base percentage of .317, which ranked ninth out of 15 teams in the National League. As a result, the Pirates fired hitting coach Jeff Branson on October 1. In November, Pittsburgh announced it had hired Rick Eckstein as Branson's replacement.

Eckstein spent the previous two seasons as the minor league hitting coordinator with the Minnesota Twins and, prior to that, was the hitting coach at the University of Kentucky. From 2009 to 2013, he served as hitting coach for the Washington Nationals. He has additional big league experience as a scout with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
